Playa Delfines is pretty much the crowned jewel of Cancun for people like me looking for sun, sand, and surf! It is also the same beach where you can take a really cheesy candid with the bright Cancun sign 😉 This beach has the kind of sand that just melts between your toes (in the good way, not in the quicksand way). The beach does steep off pretty quickly into the vast Caribbean blue water and the waves are pretty large in comparison to Florida. I thoroughly regret forgetting to take off my watch as I still have this ridiculous tan line two months later 😀 Oh well! This was the last day spent in Cancun before taking a bus through Playa Carmen to Tulum where we stayed the remainder of the week. More on that soon loves!

I have always dreamed of visiting Tulum. Just another bucket list item that I had to experience to believe that it truly could be just as beautiful as all the pictures I had seen. Spoiler alert: it was. I am getting a bit ahead of myself however as we decided to spend our first two days of our trip to Mexico in Cancun. We flew in some time in the afternoon and found ourselves walking through a huge festival to get to our Airbnb. So obviously we dumped our luggage and headed back to the festival to enjoy the massive party. There were rides, games, stalls selling keepsakes, food, drinks in pineapples, you name it. My favorite was the gentleman selling cotton candy stacked two stories high! There were two large stages where young performers sang and danced while an enormous crowd of adults grouped around a pseudo-dance floor to show off their best dance moves. Almost every child between the age of five and ten was driving around in a Power Wheels car of some sort; I suppose a common way to keep your children entertained. I still cannot believe we were so lucky to have arrived in such happy chaos!
The next day we took a ferry to Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun. Within walking distance is North Beach known best for its blindingly white sand and crystal clear waters (“My Favorite Things” plays in the background). I mean it is just shockingly beautiful there. There are actual crumbled Mayan ruins on the island that you can visit that are barely standing today due to the onslaught from a restless, crashing surf. On a separate note for future me, there is a house for sale with a view of the ruins and ocean that is posted four pictures up. The food was spectacular, pretty much tacos all day every day but who is to tell me no? We did bring our snorkel gear and spent an hour checking out the colorful fish around the reefs. We caught the ferry back as the sun was setting and had to say goodbye to island paradise…deep sigh.

I had been wanting to go back to the botanical gardens this year and planned to go this weekend only to find out it was their Spring Festival! There are vendors everywhere selling every plant and flower species imaginable. It was lovely walking around in the sunshine with a cool breeze checking out all the blooms. My sister bought me some flavored honey sticks: mango, watermelon, and wildflower this time. The honey is so fresh and there are hundreds of bees buzzing around pollinating the plants. We didn’t buy any honey this time around because I still have some left from the last time we went, but we did get a fresh guava-mango smoothie to enjoy whilst snapping some photos. I was hesitant about wearing a headband at first because of the heat, but paired with a top bun and large round sunnies it was the perfect amount of sun coverage while maintaining breathability. I am definitely keeping that combo in mind when we road trip to southern Texas a.k.a. desert wasteland next month!
After searching for hours to find where I stored all my video footage from our road trip, I decided I would never wait so long to do that ever again. Somehow everything got scattered amongst two laptops and a backup drive and I managed to lose a lot of what I would consider the best footage we had of the whole trip! I am really sad that I lost all the video from Sliding Rock, but I told myself it could have been much worse. I will still have all the memories from that amazing visit and I promise that if I ever go back I will definitely have my GoPro with me! All in all I am very happy with how this turned out. If it seems like all will did was swim under waterfalls, well you wouldn’t exactly be wrong in that assumption 😉
Also a tip for GoPro users out there: use rain-x on the outer lens of the casing, it really prevents the water droplets from sticking and helps you get a clear shot. Unfortunately, I picked up that tip a little too late for this trip, but we live and learn! So without further ado, here it is lovelies…
