If I could just drive along the Pacific Coast forever I would be extremely happy. There is a beautiful view around every corner and little areas where you can pull over to enjoy. The scenery along the coast is unparalleled and I definitely plan on coming back on our next road trip. Our final destination for the day was the Tillamook Cheese Factory. They have some of the best grilled cheese and mac n’ cheese and they also sell ice cream and give out free cheese samples! Talk about heaven on Earth! There is also a shop where you can buy a million different types of cheese and a viewing area where you can see the factory workers making it. We headed back to Portland after this for dinner, drinks, and some sleepy time, ready to gear up for the next full day of adventuring.
I had never seen the Pacific Ocean in real life and boy was I stoked when we all piled into my friend Jordan’s car and drove over to Cannon Beach, Oregon. Our first glimpse was down the road and my brother Dan turned to see my expression which probably looked something like a giddy school girl. It was the freaking ocean!! I was beyond ecstatic. As the road gave way to sand our first order of business was to go touch the cold surf and take in the gorgeous view. Jordan’s pupper was having a blast as there seemed to be more dogs than people running about. This was just stop one as we drove further down the coast but this day was already gearing up to be my favorite.

We spent the better part of an afternoon walking along Tulum’s gorgeous beach at sunset after filling our bellies with tacos (veggie for me). The food at the resorts bordering the beaches is a little pricier than in town but oh so delicious! The beaches were never as crowded as I anticipated, but that probably has something to do with the aforementioned resorts blocking public access. That is not to say you cannot go out there unless you are staying at one of these places because you totally can by just cutting through, which is what we did many times! It was well worth it, I mean just look at that stunning view!!

TULUM!! I am so in love with this coastline, it is like endless sandy beaches and azure waters just waiting to be explored. We started our day by biking from in town to the local ruins. For anyone planning to visit here some day, any “touristy” activities should be done as early as possible to avoid the crowds. We got to the ruins just after sunrise and were able to enjoy the peaceful rumble of the waves with a refreshing breeze. The ruins are spread out in what looks like a giant ancient golf course, but the true gem of this place is the view of the ocean over the cliffs and stairs taking you down to a hidden beach. There are iguanas just everywhere, but that is the Yucatan for you! I have heard from the locals that a lot of people tend to skip going to these ruins in favor of some of the more popular ones and I say they do not know what they are missing. We did visit some of the more tourist heavy hotspots North of Tulum and I still think this one was by far my favorite. I just love places that give you a feeling of serenity and intimacy, as if you are the only one soaking it all in, just you…and like fifty iguanas. This is just my take on things because I am a “long walks on the beach” kind of person (which should really come as no surprise at this point) who had once again found her happy place.
