We visited the city a lot during our stay in Portland and got the chance to see a few things touristy and a few things recommended to us by our friends that live there. I feel like no matter what you decide to do or eat here you cannot possibly go wrong. We spent some time exploring the Oregon Zoo, got a bite at Voodoo Doughnut, enjoyed some hot coffee at Stumptown, played arcade games at Ground Kontrol in Chinatown, got more coffee, ended up lost in Powell’s Books, then found more coffee. We got to the top of Pittock Mansion for that amazing view everyone talks about and had the most amazing dinner at Urban Farmer (c/o Antoine the badass chef). I would move here for the food alone, but the nature is pretty solid as well. Portland was great to us. Thank you to our friends for inviting us and showing us around, we will definitely be back ❤
P.S. Yes, I had to wear my hipster glasses the entire time because one of my contacts broke and I didn’t bring any backups (like an idiot). Luckily it worked well for the vibe. Never again though…
The Columbia River Gorge in Oregon has some of the most spectacular scenery all in one area that I have ever seen. There is an abundance of waterfalls, mountainous landscapes, and trails to explore. The main attraction seemed to be Multnomah Falls which is the waterfall with the cool bridge stretching across it. While we were there many of the trails were still pretty wet and icy but again if I had proper hiking boots I don’t think I would have any problems. Every inch of the park was covered in thick green moss or dead tree branches which, oddly enough, was eerily beautiful. I definitely think it would be worth seeing in the summer too when the flowers bloom and the air is crisper, but I really did love the serenity of winter.
Not too far down the road from Cannon Beach is Oswald West State Park which is even more beautiful than Cannon Beach if you can believe it. It takes a short hike through the woods to get to the small beach nestled between two mountains (one of which was covered in snow!) Parts of the beach are sand where others are covered in pebbles or driftwood and on one end there is even a waterfall! This beach has everything, even more puppers! I would highly recommend this location for anyone that ever wants to visit the Oregon Coast. There were a lot more trails out there as well time permitting. As usual my words don’t really do this place justice, it was just plain stunning. 10/10 would do again 🙂
Some people enjoy being whisked off to magical places and that’s all well and good but I really enjoy doing the whisking myself. I was really looking forward to a real winter this year and since Florida was never going to deliver I decided it would be the best idea to grab my brother (who I never get to travel with) and bring him with me to Portland, Oregon. Our friends were gracious enough to let us stay with them for the entire week! We tried out skiing for the first time under the shadow of Mount Hood and it actually started snowing! It was the definition of majestic. The trees were just piled high with snow and everything was so bright and blinding. I fell so many times but the ski lift operator said one of my wipeouts was the second worst he had seen in over 9 years! Go hard or go home I suppose. After literally busting ass on the slopes I had to get a piping hot bowl of ramen to warm me back up.
Pro tip: never ski in jeans, kids!
