Costa Maya was sooo beautiful! There were many places to snorkel and ruins to see. We ended up walking a great deal but you typically get to see more of what you want when you walk rather than take a “tour” in my opinion, plus it’s cheaper. I passed by this one tree with giant leaf-cutter ants crawling on it and I felt like it was a scene straight out of National Geographic. My Spanish is a bit rusty but I still successfully purchased a beverage from a local shop owner and haggled with a nice vendor for a colorful woven bracelet with my wet dollar bills. Tour guides don’t really show you that stuff, but I think it’s these little things that make an experience authentic.
